WHAT IS HOME MODIFICATION PROGRAM ????
Most homes or apartments are not designed for wheelchair accessibility.
For people using a wheelchair or an electric scooter, doorways become too narrow, stairways and bathrooms turn into danger zones, and kitchen cabinets and counters grow to unreachable heights.
Our goal is to improve the quality of life for people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. By making homes or apartments safe and accessible, will allow people with MS to regain lost independence, enjoy greater mobility, and remain involved in family activities.
HOW DOES IT WORK??????
My hubby and I conduct in-home safety and accessibility assessments. By using an easy-to-follow checklist, we visit the home with problem areas and possible solutions. We will review the assessment, issue final recommendations, and work to modify the home with what donations we have received..
Volunteers are also needed to help make-in-home modifications. Almost anyone can install a grab bar or smoke detector. More skilled volunteers will be needed to widen a doorway or build a ramp.Gary and I have done the following Homes and/or apartments. This is some of the things that have been done at the following people's homes: Stair-Way Lift, Grab Bar's, Air Conditioners, Toilet Safety Frame, Ramp, Widen Doorways, Remove a Wall for Accessibility, Hand Rails, Wall Hand Rails, Shower Chair, Swivel Sliding Transfer Bench, Hand-Held Showerhead, Vertical Bars, Lever Handles, Raised Toilet Sear, Smoke Detector, Fire Extinguisher
